For Simchas Torah we joined R’ Abramson in his yishuv called Tekoa just south of Jerusalem. The Chabad community showed much excitement as we joined them before Mincha with singing and dancing ‘Vesamachta Bechagecha’! After Maariv we went to join the hakafos at the local Sephardic and Ashkenazi shuls. We then split up to join different families in their Seudas Yom Tov.
After the Seudah, we returned to shul for a lively Farbrengen and Hakafos. We sang, danced and said L’Chaim late into the night. We were all amazed to see the Ahavas Yisroel in the Tekoa community. Men, women, children and teenagers from all different backgrounds came to join.
The next morning we woke up for Shacharis, and joined everyone for the Seudah. We sang niggunim, farbrenged and got to meet many of the locals. We then started a wild Hakafos joined by the Sephardic shul. The singing, dancing, L’Chaims and farbrenging lasted many hours! After Hakafos, we all got an Aliyah at the Torah.
When Yom Tov ended, the community joined us for a picture to remind us of this unforgettable experience. We were told that Tekoa is always open for us; all we have to do is show up! After Havadalah, R’ Abromson drove us around, and gave us a tour teaching us about Tekoa, it’s stories, security, and how it’s residents continue to fight for our land.
Simchas Torah in Tekoa showed us how close Jews can be, no matter how different we may seem. Thank you for an unforgettable amazing experience!
